Make cities and settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (SDG 11)

Infrastructure and space for sport, physical education and physical activity in urban and rural planning can help support, develop and maintain active and healthy lifestyles for their citizens. UN Habitat guidance indicates that a minimum of 15 percent of urban areas should be allocated for open and green spaces and public facilities. Integrating opportunities for sport, physical education and physical activity throughout such spaces and across urban environments can have the widespread and long-term impact (SDG 11.3 and 11.7). They are most effective when their design, implementation and management take into account the needs of all citizens, including those with disabilities, as well as other vulnerable groups such as children and women.
