The city of Lausanne and the University of Lausanne, together with Swiss authorities launched the Global Observatory for Women, Sport, Physical Education and Physical Activity in July 2021. The Observatory is the outcome of a long planned international project, first initiated in 2003.

 

 

The body seeks to strengthen the position for girls and women in sports. Data suggests a gender inequality in physical activity and in media representation of sports. The Observatory will support further research on women’s’ sport which can be translated into action plans to steer towards gender equality in and through sports.

 

Through the Observatory, UN Women, UNESCO, the International Olympic Committee and other stakeholders will contribute to the Sport for Generation Equality initiative focusing on leadership, protection, opportunities, media coverage and female participation in sport.
